Former Bruins Prospect Signs With New Team cover image

After spending over a month on the market as a free agent, former Boston Bruins prospect Reilly Walsh has found his new home.

According to The Hockey News' Kristy Flannery, Walsh's agent confirmed that the right-shot blueliner has signed overseas. In addition, Flannery reported that the club Walsh is joining is Barys Astana of the KHL.

Walsh was acquired by the Bruins from the New Jersey Devils back during the 2023 NHL off-season in exchange for forward Shane Bowers. Following this, the Framingham, Massachusetts native spent the entirety of the 2023-24 season down in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Providence Bruins. In 60 games with the AHL squad on the year, he posted nine goals, 19 assists, and 28 points. He also appeared in four playoff games for Providence that season, recording two assists. He never played in an NHL regular-season game for Boston.

Walsh's time with the Bruins came to an end during the 2024 NHL off-season, as he signed a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Kings. He then spent all of the 2024-25 campaign in the AHL with the Ontario Reign, where he posted six goals, 26 assists, and 32 points.

Now, after spending each of the last three seasons exclusively in the AHL, Walsh will be taking his talents overseas with Barys Astana. The former Bruin should be a nice addition to their roster, as he has shown at the AHL level that he can produce decent offense from the point. It will be fascinating to see how much of it he can translate over to the KHL from here.
