At the 2025 NHL trade deadline, the Boston Bruins acquired forward Casey Mittelstadt from the Colorado Avalanche as a part of the Charlie Coyle trade. The hope now is that Mittelstadt will provide the Bruins' top six with more offense.
Mittelstadt made his Bruins debut against the Tampa Bay Lightning on March 8, and he certainly left a good first impression. The 26-year-old forward finished the game with an assist and a plus-2 rating.
Mittelstadt made a great play that led to his assist, too. When Lightning defenseman Nick Perbix tried to pass the puck out of Tampa Bay's zone, Mittelstadt got his stick in the way and intercepted it. From there, he made a move before making a sweet pass to Cole Koepke that led to the latter scoring.
Mittelstadt stood out during the Bruins' 4-0 win against the Lightning with his two-way play. The 2017 eighth-overall pick will look to continue to make a positive impact with the Bruins, and it's clear his debut couldn't have gone much better.
With this assist, Mittelstadt now sits at 35 points in 64 games this season. While his offense is down this season compared to recent years, perhaps this trade to Boston can help spark his offensive game. Keep in mind, he had at least 58 points in each of his two previous seasons.
