Paul Maurice added some salt to the wound.
The Boston Bruins fell to the Florida Panthers by a 3-2 final score in Game 4. With it, they are down 3-1 in the series, and their chances of advancing to the Eastern Conference Final have significantly decreased. Winning three straight games against the Panthers, including two on the road, is a humongous ask.
A major reason for this loss was due to a controversial goal. While in front of the net, Sam Bennett cross-checked Charlie Coyle into Jeremy Swayman. From there, Swayman could not move, and Bennett put the puck into the open net.
The Bruins rightfully challenged for goaltender interference. It seemed obvious that the goal would be called back, but much to the surprise of the hockey world, it counted.
Following the game, Panthers head coach Paul Maurice was asked if he was surprised about the goal. Here's what the Panthers' bench boss said on the matter:
"I will have an opinion, and it would be no. In that, it will have no impact on the play in the game. And then, the connection between the two, the contact between the two (players) is not egregious at all. And the play just gets finished more than anything else.”
Maurice then went on to rip the media's reaction to Bennett's controversial goal:
"The only way that I was particularly concerned is like some of your foreheads right now... I think there’s been lots of energy with lots of coverage, and I think you’ve gone lost your minds on it, which is fine. Which is fine. You’ve got that right. I don’t mean to offend you anytime, but we don’t always share the same opinion about what happens on the ice. I am absolutely partisan, like 100%. Sometimes, I feel like you are, too."
