The 2026-27 Boston Bruins could have looked extremely different had one move gone through.

David Pagnotta reported Thursday that the Bruins and the Edmonton Oilers had agreed on a trade that sent Darnell Nurse to the Bruins in a multi-piece deal.

However, one player heading from Boston to Edmonton declined to waive their no-trade clause, killing the deal.

After the talks broke down, Nurse expanded his no-move list, and the Oilers dealt him to the San Jose Sharks.

Pagnotta did not specify what Bruin nixed the deal, nor has any concrete insiders confirmed who rejected the trade.

Based on Boston's contractual situation, it's likely the player was one of Nikita Zadorov or Casey Mittelstadt, both of whom hold minor no-trade clauses.

Had the Bruins gone through with any deal, it would've been adding Nurse's final four years of his contract at a $9.25 million cap hit, with Nurse holding a no-move, and partial no-trade clause for the rest of the contract.

Subtracting either of Zadorov or Mittelstadt's contracts would've given Boston plenty of room to operate under the cap, especially if Mason Lohrei ended up in any deal as well.

In the end, all that's left is to speculate, with no hard reporting on what any deal might've looked like.

All that's known is Boston came very close to bringing in Darnell Nurse.
