Nearly one month into free agency, former Boston Bruins forward James van Riemsdyk still remains without a contract for the 2024-25 season. That certainly has the potential to change, as he put up decent numbers for the Bruins in 2023-24. Even after a tough finish to the regular season, he had 11 goals, 38 points, and a plus-7 rating in 71 games.
Teams looking for more secondary offensive production and power play help could consider taking a flier on van Riemsdyk. In a recent article for The Hockey News Utah, Spencer Lazary discussed the prospect of Utah HC signing van Riemsdyk to a PTO.

Utah HC has had a very busy summer, adding Mikhail Sergachev, John Marino, Ian Cole, and Kevin Stenlund. While Utah has made some notable additions, especially to their blueline, it would make sense for them to browse the free-agent market for more forward depth. van Riemsdyk is arguably the best free agent still left, so he certainly stands out.
If van Riemsdyk signed a deal with Utah HC, he would provide them with more secondary offensive production in their bottom six. In addition, given his solid net-front presence ability, he would be a clear option for their power play. Furthermore, with Utah HC being a young team looking to get into the playoffs, adding an experienced winger like JVR could make sense for them at the right price.
