According to Elliotte Friedman, the Florida Panthers signed former Buffalo Sabres forward Sam Reinhart to an eight-year contract before the midnight deadline. Friedman also reported this morning that Reinhart's new deal will have a $8.625 million cap hit.
If Panthers GM Bill Zito had waited until Monday to re-sign Reinhart, he would not have been able to give him the eighth year of his contract. However, both sides worked incredibly hard to finalize a contract and did so in the final hour.
Reinhart, 28, had a spectacular season for the Panthers, posting new career highs with 57 goals and 94 points in 82 games. He then followed that up by recording 10 goals (including the Stanley Cup winner) and 16 points in 24 playoff games.

Reinhart has certainly been rewarded for his marvelous play by landing this big eight-year contract.
