The Sabres are reportedly interested in Jets prospect Rutger McGroarty.
The Buffalo Sabres may have an outstanding prospect pool, but they appear to be looking to improve it even further.
According to Winnipeg Free Press' Mike McIntyre, he was informed by a source that the Buffalo Sabres are one of the teams who have "checked in" on Winnipeg Jets top prospect Rutger McGroarty. The other clubs that McIntyre mentioned being interested in McGroarty include the Boston Bruins, Columbus Blue Jackets, and New York Islanders.
With the Sabres looking to improve, it is understandable that they have their eyes on McGroarty. The 2022 first-round pick should be a very impactful player in the NHL, as he has the skill, speed, and size to become a top-six forward later down the road.
McGroarty has also been spectacular at the collegiate level with the University of Michigan. After posting 18 goals and 39 points in 39 games for the school in 2022-23 as a freshman, he had 52 points in 36 games this past season. He is developing in the right direction.
If the Sabres landed McGroarty, he would join a deep prospect pool that already has promising talents like Zach Benson, Matt Savoie, Jiri Kulich, Noah Ostlund, and Isak Rosen.
It will be intriguing to see if the Sabres end up being the lucky club that lands McGroarty. While adding talent that will help them immediately should be their top priority, adding a star prospect like McGroarty to their system would still be outstanding for the future.
