This former Buffalo Sabres pick has been placed on waivers.
Former Buffalo Sabres draft pick Brendan Lemieux has been placed on waivers by the Carolina Hurricanes.
The Sabres selected Lemieux with the 31st overall pick of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. The gritty winger never ended up playing a game for the Sabres, though. This is because the Sabres traded him to the Winnipeg Jets during the 2014-15 season in the trade that brought Evander Kane and Zach Bogosian to Buffalo.
Since then, Lemieux has become a journeyman, having stints with the Jets, New York Rangers, Los Angeles Kings, Philadelphia Flyers, and now Hurricanes. In 32 games with the Canes during this past season, the 6-foot-1 forward had three goals, two assists, 64 penalty minutes, and 71 hits.
Teams looking for more grit in their bottom six could consider taking a flier on Lemieux. However, if he clears, he will be heading to the AHL.
