Former Buffalo Sabres trade acquisition Jaroslav Halak is heading overseas. This is because the veteran netminder has reached an agreement to play with HC Slovan Bratislava of the Slovak Extraliga. However, it is important to note that he will make a decision about whether he will sign a contract or not with the club by the end of this month.

Halak, 38, had been looking to sign a contract with an NHL team this season, as he is five wins away from 300 career wins. He signed a PTO with the Carolina Hurricanes earlier this season, but he failed to earn a deal. Now, he is heading back home to continue his career, at least temporarily.

Halak has an interesting but very brief history with the Sabres. Before the 2014 NHL Trade Deadline, the St. Louis Blues traded Halak to the Sabres as one of the pieces in the Ryan Miller trade. He did not appear in a game for the Sabres, however, as he was moved to the Washington Capitals shortly. Yet, he did dress as Buffalo's backup for a game before the move.
