With the Rangers losing Game 6, Jimmy Vesey's season is over.
New York Rangers forward Jimmy Vesey suffered an upper-body injury in Game 2 against the Florida Panthers that has kept him out of action. On Saturday, he took a notable step in the right direction, returning to practice in a non-contact jersey. That gave some optimism that he could return to action at some point before the playoffs were done, but now that thought can be forgotten.
The Rangers fell to the Panthers by a 2-1 final score in Game 6, officially ending the Original Six club's season. With it, the Panthers have advanced to the Stanley Cup Final for the second year in a row.
Vesey, 31, proved to be an effective bottom-six forward for the Rangers this season. In 80 games, the Massachusetts native posted 13 goals, 26 points, and 90 hits. He also chipped in a goal and two assists in 12 playoff games for the Blueshirts.
Overall, it was another decent season for Vesey. He will remain a key depth forward for the Rangers from here, as he has another year left on his contract.
Vesey spent the 2019-20 season with the Sabres, recording nine goals, 20 points, and a plus-12 rating in 64 games.
