One of the Buffalo Sabres' most notable prospects is set to begin his professional career in North America.

The Sabres announced today (March 24) that they have assigned Anton Wahlberg to the Rochester Americans. In a corresponding move, Olivier Nadeau has been reassigned to the Jacksonville Icemen of the ECHL.

Wahlberg, 18, was selected by the Sabres with the 39th overall pick of the 2023 NHL Entry Draft. He spent this season with the Malmo Redhawks of the SHL, posting five goals and 10 points in 43 games. It was a solid first full season in the SHL for him, and now he will look to build off it with the Amerks from here.

With the Redhawks' season over, it is easy to understand why the Sabre are having Wahlberg join the Amerks. Rochester is currently fighting for a playoff spot, and bringing in a promising prospect like Wahlberg should give them a nice boost.
