In the latest 32 Thoughts: The Podcast episode, Buffalo Sabres star forward Alex Tuch spoke with NHL insider Elliotte Friedman in what was a great conversation.

During the episode, Tuch noted how the Sabres have good leaders, and some of those players don't even know it. From there, Friedman asked him for a specific example, and Tuch immediately said former teammate Casey Mittelstadt. It is important to note that this interview was recorded shortly before Mittelstadt was dealt to the Colorado Avalanche for Bowen Byram.

Here is what Tuch had to say about Mittelstadt's leadership: "So, he's obviously been our most prolific offensive player this year. His ability to carry a game, I don't think he really understands it. I'm not saying that he's going to be a guy that's going to be speaking up in a locker room because he's a quieter guy, but guys gravitate towards him. Especially when it comes to hockey... He sees the game like nobody else, and he's really smart about it."

Tuch gave Mittelstadt some very high praise here. Clearly, the latter quietly became a true leader for the Sabres before his move to Colorado. As Tuch noted, Mittelstadt's high hockey IQ made his former Sabre teammates go to him often, and it is understandable.

Mittelstadt, 25, took a big step forward this season before his move to the Avs, posting 14 goals and 47 points in 62 games with Buffalo. He is still producing well with Colorado so far, too, as he has one goal, three points, and a plus-4 rating in his first four games.
