The Sabres are likely to part ways with this goaltender.
The Buffalo Sabres have their goaltending plans set for the 2024-25 season. Young netminders Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and Devon Levi are expected to their goaltending tandem for the campaign.
It is understandable that the Sabres are planning to run with Luukkonen and Levi as their goaltenders. Luukkonen had a breakout year for the Sabres in 2023-24, while Levi has high potential and dominated with the Rochester Americans this year.
But what about Eric Comrie? The 28-year-old's two-year deal expired at the end of the 2023-24 campaign, and he will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1 if he doesn't get re-signed by then. Given the Sabres' plan to go with Levi and Luukkonen next season, it seems more likely than not that Comrie's time in Buffalo is over.
It would not be surprising in the slightest if Comrie was let go by the Sabres. The Edmonton native's tenure with the club was underwhelming, and he bounced between the NHL and AHL because of it.
This past season, Comrie struggled noticeably while with the Sabres, posting a 2-7-0 record, a .874 SV%, and a 3.69 GAA in 10 games. In 2022-23 with Buffalo, he had a .886 SV% and a 3.67 GAA in 19 appearances.
Given how his two years with the Sabres went, they will likely consider other options for their third-string goalie/AHL starter for 2024-25. Comrie, on the other hand, may benefit from a fresh start.
