The Sabres are likely to part ways with this netminder over the summer.
The Buffalo Sabres are set to have a big offseason. After extending their playoff drought to 13 years, it is clear that the Sabres need to make changes to their group.
One player who will very likely not be back next season is goaltender Eric Comrie. The Edmonton native's contract has officially expired, and given the way his tenure in Buffalo went, it would be surprising to see them bring him back.
During the 2022 NHL Offseason, Comrie signed a two-year, $3.6 million contract with the Sabres. The expectation was that he would be a solid 1B or backup goalie for the Sabres. It was an understandable thought at the time, as he just had an excellent season with the Winnipeg Jets in 2021-22. In 19 games that season, he posted a 10-5-1 record, a .920 SV%, and a 2.58 GAA.
However, that kind of play did not translate over to Buffalo, and he struggled throughout his tenure as a Sabre. In 29 NHL games over his two-year deal, he had an 11-16-1 record, a .882 SV%, and a 3.68 GAA. He has also spent time in the AHL during both seasons because of his shaky play.
Due to this, the Sabres will likely let Comrie walk this summer. Their goal should be to bring in a veteran upgrade over Comrie this offseason. Some pending UFAs worth considering include Anthony Stolarz, Cam Talbot, and Laurent Brossoit.
