The Sabres need to make a push for this Flyers forward.
The Buffalo Sabres are gearing up for what should be a big offseason. After extending their playoff drought to a horrific 13 years, the club needs to make some significant moves during the summer.
One specific area that the Sabres will look to address is the third-line center position. Youngster Peyton Krebs struggled to produce offensively in the role and is better suited for fourth-line minutes.
While the Sabres could find a 3C in free agency, they also have a perfect trade target from the Philadelphia Flyers worth targeting - Scott Laughton.
Laughton, 29, generated plenty of trade buzz at the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline, but the Flyers elected to hold onto him, as they were still in the playoff race. The Sabres were one of the many teams rumored to be connected to Laughton, and it ultimately makes sense. The fit, at least on paper, is there.
Laughton would not only give them more secondary production if acquired but also a veteran forward who provides plenty of leadership and physicality. He is exactly the kind of player that a team looking to take that next step, like the Sabres, could use.
Laughton is coming off a solid season with the Flyers, posting 13 goals, 39 points, 69 penalty minutes, and 155 hits. Adding that kind of production and toughness would be massive for Buffalo, so they need to make a real push for him this offseason.
