The Sabres have an excellent trade target from the Utah Hockey Club.

The Buffalo Sabres are currently looking to make a move. It is no secret that they could use another top-six forward, and they have the cap space to land one.
When looking around the NHL, the Utah Hockey Club could be an interesting trading partner for the Sabres. They are heading in the wrong direction, as they have a 7-8-3 record and have won only three out of their last 10 games.
If Utah elects to sell this season, one player who the Sabres should make a push for is forward Nick Schmaltz.

Schmaltz, 28, would have the potential to provide the Sabres with a big boost offensively if acquired. This is because he is an impactful top-six winger who had 22 goals and 61 points in 79 games just last season with the Arizona Coyotes. Furthermore, he had 22 goals and 58 points in 63 games with the Coyotes in 2022-23. Thus, he can be a real difference-maker when on his game.
If the Sabres acquired Schmaltz, he would be a clear option for their second line and power play due to his playmaking ability. In addition, he would be more than a rental if acquired, as he carries a $5.85 million cap hit until the end of the 2025-26 season.
Because of this, Schmaltz is a forward the Sabres should keep an eye on this season.
