The Buffalo Sabres' playoff hopes are still alive because the teams in front of them are struggling immensely down the stretch. A win in regulation this afternoon (April 7) against the Detroit Red Wings is needed if they hope to stay in it, so all eyes will be on this contest.
Another notable reason for the Sabres still being alive is the strong play of star defenseman Rasmus Dahlin. The 23-year-old is having a solid season offensively, posting 57 points in 76 games. With that, he has been dependable defensively and has given Buffalo's blue line plenty of bite with his physicality.

Due to his impressive offense, Dahlin is nearing a significant scoring milestone. The 2018 first-overall pick needs only one goal to hit the 20-goal mark for the first time in his career. Phil Housley is the only defender in Sabres history to score at least 20 goals in a single season, achieving it five times.
Dahlin has five games left to score one more goal and get his 20th. It would undoubtedly be the cherry on top for his excellent season, and we will need to wait and see if he does it from here.
