The Sabres could be moving a winger before the deadline passes.

The Buffalo Sabres are going to be a team to pay attention to during the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline. Currently, they are expected to be sellers, and they have some players who they could flip by March 8 because of it.

With the trade deadline rapidly approaching, The Athletic published an article discussing which player or draft pick from each team is most likely to be traded. For the Buffalo Sabres, Matthew Fairburn listed forward Victor Olofsson.

Here is what Fairburn said on the matter: "Veterans like Zemgus Girgensons, Kyle Okposo and Erik Johnson might be most attractive to buyers at the deadline, but the Sabres seem most willing to move Victor Olofsson. His salary was a roadblock in the offseason, but maybe a team looking for a little more scoring would be willing to part with a mid-round pick."

It is hard to argue against Fairburn's opinion. It is not a secret that the Sabres were aggressively looking to trade Olofsson during the offseason. Yet, now that his contract is expiring, it may be easier for the Sabres to find him a new home, as Fairburn notes. This is especially so if the Sabres are open to retaining half of his salary.

There is no question that Olofsson could use a change of scenery. His placement on the Sabres' depth chart has dropped significantly this season, and he has been scratched numerous times. During the month of January, he only played in three games.

This has all impacted his game offensively, as he has just four goals and 12 points in 33 games. When noting that he had 28 goals just this past season, there's reason to believe that he could bounce back if given a new opportunity.

We will need to wait and see if Olofsson gets moved to a team looking for more scoring depth before the deadline from here.
