Sabres Lose To Anaheim, Face Kings In LA

The 2024 NHL Trade Deadline is rapidly approaching, as it is just a little over a month away. Trade chatter around the league is naturally rising because of it. When it comes to the Buffalo Sabres, they will likely be selling off some of their pending UFAs, as they are currently the third-worst team in the Eastern Conference.

In a recent article for The Athletic, Chris Johnston and Harman Dayal listed 10 under-the-radar trade candidates, and a Buffalo Sabres forward made the cut – Victor Olofsson.

Olofsson, 28, is no stranger to the rumor mill. During the offseason, the Sabres looked to move him, but a deal did not come to fruition. Yet, now that the deadline is nearing, and he would be a clear rental, could that change?

It would not be surprising if the Sabres actively shop Olofsson again at the deadline. As Johnston and Dayal note in their piece, he has only been dressed for three games in January.

Teams looking for more scoring could consider taking a flier on Olofsson. He is a three-time 20-goal scorer, and that includes his 28-goal campaign in 2022-23. While he has struggled this season (four goals and 12 points in 33 games), perhaps a well-needed change of scenery could help him find his game. There's no question that the skill is there.

If the Sabres are open to retaining half of his salary, there could be a market for him as more of the bigger-name scoring forwards get moved. We will need to wait and see if he gets dealt from here.
