The 2024 World Junior Championship proved quite fruitful for the two Carolina Hurricanes prospects in attendance.
Forward Felix Unger Sorum won a silver medal with Team Sweden and goaltender Jakub Vondras helped backstop Team Czechia to an improbable comeback over Team Finland to capture bronze.
It was a good tournament showing for Unger Sorum who finished with a goal and six points in seven games. He played on the power play, where his vision was really on display, and his line was fairly dominant at even strength too and he finished as a +6.
He drew quite a few calls and it was apparent that his skating has steadily improved, especially his cuts with the puck.
World Juniors Update: Felix Unger Sorum and Team Sweden Advance to Gold Medal Game
While the end result might not have been what he hoped for, it's still promising to see Unger Sorum be as effective as he was at the tournament.
For Vondras, he actually only played 52:17 across the entire tournament.
Michael Hrabel started every game for the Czechs, but after two quick ones against in the bronze medal match against Finland, he got yanked for Vondras.
Coming in cold wasn't easy for Vondras who saw three goals go by him within seven minutes in the second period, but he tightened up his play in the third period and did what he had to do to help the Czechs mount their comeback.
Vondras stopped 17 of 20 shots he faced as the Czechs scored six unanswered in the third period to steal victory.
Congrats to both on their performances.
