UPDATED: Per warmups in Washington, Vasily Ponomarev will make his NHL debut tonight.
Stefan Noesen and Martin Necas are both out.
He will center the fourth line.
ORIGINAL: The Carolina Hurricanes have announced that they have recalled 2020 second-round pick, Vasily Ponomarev, from the Chicago Wolves of the AHL.
This move comes in response to Carolina having a few question marks in terms of availabilities for tonight's game.
Jesper Fast continues to be unavailable due to an upper-body injury and at Thursday's practice, Stefan Noesen was absent due to illness and Martin Necas left early with an apparent injury to his right arm.
The Hurricanes did not hold a morning skate today, so we won't know until closer to game time if those guys will be good to go or not.
If in fact one of Necas or Noesen can't go, either Tony DeAngelo will draw back in on the blueline and the Hurricanes will go 11/7 or Ponomarev could potentially make his NHL debut.
The 21-year-old Russian has 20 points in 22 games in the AHL this year after returning from a knee injury suffered during the Hurricanes' training camp.
The center has been Carolina's top prospect for a bit now and plays a solid two-way game. If not for the injury to start the year, he could have potentially challenged for a roster spot.
Now, he may get the chance to make his case.
