Recovering ahead of schedule from shoulder surgery, Carolina's star winger joins the team's swing through the West as the injury-depleted Hurricanes await final medical clearance for his return.

The Carolina Hurricanes seem to be on the verge of getting star forward Seth Jarvis back into the lineup for the first time this season.

The team practiced on Friday before flying out for their five-game road trip and while Jarvis wasn't taking reps like someone who'd be in the lineup for Saturday, he said that he is indeed making the trip.

"Hopefully it feels better, get some more rehab in over the trip, some more skates and see where it's at," Jarvis said.

The 24-year-old winger has been recovering from shoulder surgery he had in the offseason and while he was always anticipated to miss time, his return looks to be well ahead of schedule.

"I would hope so," Brind'Amour said when asked if he expects Jarvis to suit up on the trip. "He hasn't been cleared yet though. When he gets that clearance, we'll see."

Jarvis has been practicing with the team since Day 1 of training camp, but has only been out of a non-contact jersey since last Thursday (Oct. 8).

"I haven't gotten a ton of team practices in, but with the extra skates we've done a lot more battle drills, which is nice for me," Jarvis said. "Just testing it out a little bit more. Everything feels good. I don't know where it goes from here, but hopefully I'll be playing soon. That's what I'm holding out for."

Jarvis' return can't come soon enough either as the team has been dealt two huge blows with both Jordan Staal and Taylor Hall now dealing with injuries too.

But just because the injuries are piling doesn't mean that Jarvis is going to rush back either.

"For me, I always want to play. I always want to be in the lineup, but I think from a team standpoint, we've done such a good job with injuries and guys coming up and filling roles," Jarvis said. "I have all the confidence in the world that we'll be fine. There isn't any urgency for the team to rush me back. Obviously I'd love to play, but I think our team's in a great spot."

While we might not see Jarvis on Saturday, the team recalled both Bradly Nadeau and Felix Unger Sorum to cover for the absences in the meantime, there's still a pretty good chance we see him some time next week.
