This Avalanche addition is fitting in nicely with his new club.
Before the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline, the Colorado Avalanche added Sean Walker from the Philadelphia Flyers. This move came the same day the Avalanche traded Bowen Byram to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for Casey Mittelstadt. Clearly, the Avs needed to replace Byram in their lineup, and they landed a popular trade target in Walker.
Fast-forward to today, and Walker is turning out to be a pretty solid addition for the Avalanche thus far. In 15 games, the Keswick native has four goals, two assists, and 23 hits. Overall, he has given them some decent offense and physicality from the point, but that is just the tip of the iceberg.
The addition of Walker has helped the Avalanche form one of the strongest right sides in the league with him, Cale Makar, and Josh Manson. Having a defenseman of Walker's caliber playing on their bottom pairing has benefited the Avs. Along with that, he has been a solid fit on their penalty kill, providing them with dependable defense.
There's a chance Walker will be just a rental for the Avalanche, but even if he only stays in Colorado for the remainder of this year, it's still a huge plus for the club. He is improving the Avalanche's defense, and having his all-around strong play in their lineup will be especially important during the playoffs.
