The Colorado Avalanche will be big buyers at the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline, as they are among the league's top teams. While adding a top-six center should certainly be on their agenda, GM Chris MacFarland also shared another plan he has for the Avs at the deadline.

While speaking with Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli, MacFarland confirmed that he is looking to add a backup goalie to their roster before the deadline passes. The primary reason is that he's worried about overplaying Alexandar Georgiev and Pavel Francouz being out for the season.

Although the Avalanche claimed goalie Ivan Provestov off of waivers earlier this season, he has only made 11 appearances this season, and MacFarland believes he's a goalie "trying to find his way in the NHL game." As a result, it makes sense that he wants to get a goalie with a bit more experience for the backup role.

Georgiev, on the other hand, has appeared in 37 out of the Avalanche's 45 games this season already. That's a ton of work for a goaltender this early on in the season, and he has struggled a bit with consistency this season because of it (.898 SV%).

The goalie trade market has some decent backup options like Marc-Andre Fleury (Minnesota Wild), Jake Allen (Montreal Canadiens), Kaapo Kahkonen (San Jose Sharks), and Karel Vejmelka (Arizona Coyotes).
