The NHLPA announced that Martin Necas has been named Player of the Week for scoring eight points over his last four games last week.
The NHLPA has awarded Martin Necas as the player of the week for March 20 to March 26. In those four games, he helped the Colorado Avalanche go 4-0 during the road trip, outscoring their opponent 16-7.
He finished with three goals and five assists for eight points, the most points scored by any NHLer during that four-game stretch. He led all Avalanche skaters in points during that four-game stretch as well, with 2.00 points per game; the closest Avalanche skater to that mark was Nathan MacKinnon with five points during the stretch.
It has been a career season for Necas, and he has looked like a completely different player since returning from the 2026 Milan Olympics. In the 16 games since returning, he has 12 goals and 15 assists for 27 points, with 13 of those coming on the power play, an area the team has improved since the break as well.
Considering the first game back from the Utah Mammoth on February 25 through last night's 3-2 win against the Winnipeg Jets, the only other player in the NHL who scored more points in that time span is Tampa Bay Lightning's Nikita Kucherov, with 11 goals and 19 assists for 30 points. More points than Connor McDavid (27), his own teammate Nathan MacKinnon (25), and Jack Hughes (23).
We're seeing a whole new level to Necas’ game this season, setting career highs across the board in pretty much every major department while still having 11 more games to play this season. At 34 goals and 55 assists for 89 points, there is a world where we very much could see him finish with over 40 goals and 60-plus assists and notch his very first 100-point season.
