Blue Jackets Players Donate To Local Hockey Player With Brain Tumour cover image

Yesterday, a story surfaced on social media about local Columbus hockey player Quinn Halstead, who has recently been diagnosed with a brain tumour.

Halstead plays for the Ohio AAA Blue Jackets U12 girls team and sadly just received some of the toughest news a person can hear. The positive news is that she is scheduled for surgery to remove the tumour and, hopefully, will be back on the ice soon.

Because of her diagnosis, her family created a GoFundMe, and to her surprise many past and present Columbus Blue Jackets players and members of management were quick to donate.

Some of the players who contributed include Kirill Marchenko, Elvis Merzlikins, Yegor Chinakhov, Zach Werenski, Jack Roslovic, Sean Monahan, Cam Atkinson, James van Riemsdyk, Boone Jenner, Dante Fabbro, Mathieu Olivier, RJ Umberger, Adam Fantilli, Jake Christiansen, Cole Sillinger, Justin Danforth, Zach Aston-Reese, Derek Dorsett and Charlie Coyle. Also stepping up were head coach Dean Evason, goalie coach Niklas Backstrom, and senior executive John Davidson.

Together, their contributions added up to just under $20,000 toward the GoFundMe. Alongside the players and staff, local Blue Jackets reporters and even popular YouTuber Nasher made donations. As of now, the campaign’s goal is $45,000, with more than $42,000 already raised. It seems like only a matter of days before the family reaches their goal, helping Quinn recover from surgery and, hopefully, return to the ice soon
