Cannon City Quotables: Columbus Blue Jackets vs. New York Rangers

Dmitri Voronkov, Kirill Marchenko, Jack Roslovic, and Ivan Provorov powered the Jackets past the New York Rangers on Sunday night. Elvis Merzlikins played very well and stopped all 18 shots directed at him in the third period.

Last night, Jack Roslovic, Dmitri Voronkov, and Mathieu Olivier spoke to the media postgame. HC Pascal Vincent also gave his thoughts on the game.

Jack Roslovic - 1g, 1a - 3 shots - 21:09 ice time

  • Personally, I don't think the first was all that great.
  • Tip your hats to Elvis at the end.
  • Huge fight, huge win. Snapped a teams 10 game winning streak.
  • On third periods and holding the lead against a huge Ranger push: We know it's a thing we need to get better at.
  • On another packed Nationwide Arena: Sunday night in Columbus, nothing better to be doing. (as he says with a huge smile on his face)

Dmitri Voronkov - 1g, 1a - 7 shots - 14:21 ice time

  • Olivier's fight: That fired us up. Ollie did a great job. It really fired the whole team up.
  • On figuring the league out: It's pretty good now. Better! (he says in English)
  • Marchenko as a passer: Two weeks ago he said he was going to pass more and play smarter, it looks like he's doing that.
  • To be honest, from the very beginning, everyone was very friendly, very open, and always ready to help. I don't speak English and everyone is trying to help me from the very beginning so that's obviously making a huge difference.
  • On playing with the Russian forwards: We're having a great time together because we're scoring goals and assisting each other. We're having a great time.
  • Chinny and Marchenko are helping me out

Mathieu Olivier - 1 fight - 2 shots - 9:27 ice time

  • On his fight sparking the team: That's the whole point of a fight. I'm happy it worked. That's the whole reason why we do it.
  • What he said to Remke Pregame: I told him great tilt yesterday and I hope you're doing alright because that was a tough one. He said yeah im good. So first shift he came and asked me, so there's a lot of respect there for doing that. Kudos to him. He's doing a good job getting noticed. So, for lack of a better word that takes some balls.
  • On Rempe: I didn't know much about him to be honest. He's coming in, he's making a name for himself. Just two guys doing their job, nothing but respect.
  • Overall a solid 60 minutes from us. We've had issues holding leads in the past. Today was another step in the right direction. A great growth moment for us.
  • On if he played a role in the win: Yeah I did my role, but it was a whole team effort.
  • On the scratches this season and if he's frustrated: It's a fair assessment. Part of it's on me. There are some moments for sure that I could've been better. My job is to stay ready and try to get better. It's been a frustrating season.

Head Coach Pascal Vincent

  • Two tough guys going at it. The reaction of the fans tell you. Ollie is our guy, and he's really good at it.
  • We played a really smart hockey game. Guys were ready.
  • On the third period: We're growing! We're just learning from the past, we've had more success recently. There's more confidence. We're not just giving time and space just to make sure we don't get beat. We still pressure when we can. We also manage the puck properly when under pressure.
  • It's a team that is learning and tonight was a result of those setbacks.
  • Energy was good.
  • On Playing a physical game: We can play that style of game if that's what the other team wants to do. That part of the game, as far as we're concerned, we're pretty good at it.
  • Do your job and do it right and we'll be fine. Elvis was good. Special teams we're good.
  • After the first period, I felt we were dumping the puck too much when we didn't have to. So there's a time and place to do it. I wanted them to carry the puck, keep the puck and they did.
  • On Elvis: He was really good in the third. He was in control. I saw a guy that showed some poise, his reads were good, he was there on time.
  • The Russians: They're playing more north-south. They were really good at first, and then they started to play a game that's not appropriate for the NHL. And that's ok, they're young players. It's fine. When we put them back together, we told them listen, there's a way. There's a time and place to make those plays.
  • Voronkov: His hockey sense is off the chart. He's rarely in a bad position.
  • He forgot about the rule. In the KHL apparently, it's not a rule where you can't put your hand on the puck. He was the first guy to apologize. Very impressive.
  • On Roslovic: Since he is back with Jenner and Johnny, he's playing real solid hockey.

What's Next - The Jackets travel to NYC on Wednesday to take on the Rangers at 7 p.m.
