Among other news, the Dallas Stars announced that they signed Cameron Hughes to a two-year, two-way contract extension.

Hughes just finished his first season with the Texas Stars. The alternate captain from Alberta was drafted by the Boston Bruins in the 2015 draft in the sixth-round, 165th overall. In his professional career, he has played for the Providence Bruins and Coachella Valley Firebirds, with two NHL games in Boston.

Milwaukee Admirals left wing Jake Lucchini (white uniform) has a shot deflected by Texas Stars forward Cameron Hughes (19) in a game Friday, January 10, 2025, at the UWM Panther Arena in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

The Stars signed Hughes on July 1, 2024 on the first day of free-agency to add some depth back into the Texas Stars, their AHL team. In his time in Cedar Park, he tied his career high of 57 points from the season before, both in 69 games. This past season he had 23 goals and 34 assists. As an alternate captain he helped lead the Texas Stars to the Western Conference Final, where they fell to the Abbotsford Canucks.

If Hughes plays in the AHL next season, he will add some much needed depth and talent to their roster, as well as his veteran leadership.  However, with Dallas' tight cap situation, they may be looking to add some low-cost players from the AHL and Hughes could make a case for himself at training camp ahead of the season.

Hughes is currently listed in the AHL, so this contract does not affect the Stars at the moment.
