Now that Detroit has heated back up in the new year, how likely is the team to keep that good form going?

After a dreadful month of December, the Detroit Red Wings (7-1-1 in the new year) are suddenly red hot.  There are a few sources you can point to to explain the team's newfound strong form.

One is Alex Lyon's consistent confidence and competence in net, which has clearly been central to the team's 2024 success.

Another is a more relaxed schedule allowing for increased practice time, which Derek Lalonde recently mentioned as central to the team's defense improving in the new year.

However, given the big swings between hot and cold streaks we've seen all year long from Detroit, it's fair to wonder just how sustainable the team's current success actually is.

My co-host Connor Earegood and I took on this subject on the most recent episode of The Silky Mitten State.  For a sample of that conversation, check out the video above.
