The Detroit Red Wings' 2022 first round draft choice picked up the honor for his roll in the Grand Rapids' Griffins sweep of the Manitoba Moose
After a slow start to the season, Marco Kasper˘—whom the Detroit Red Wings selected eighth overall at the 2022 NHL Draft in Montreal—is heating up for the Grand Rapids Griffins. Now, thanks to a five-point weekend in the Griffins' sweep over the Manitoba Moose, Kasper has picked up the AHL's player of the week honors.
Kasper helped drive three-goal comebacks on consecutive nights. On Friday, he scored the overtime winner for Grand Rapids, before scoring a pair of goals Saturday (his first multi-goal AHL game) then assisting on Zach Aston-Reese's game-winning goal with just 12 seconds to play.
Entering the season, this was always going to be a year of adaptation for Kasper, who had not played a full campaign on North American ice, so his relatively slow start to the year can't come as too much of a surprise.
After this weekend, Kasper now has 11 points in his last 10 games, and he appears to have settled in nicely to life in GR. Meanwhile, a pair of wins over the weekend leaves the Griffins sitting in third place in the Central Division.
For the season, Kasper now has six goals and 13 assists in 36 games.
