On Friday night in Raleigh, the Detroit Red Wings saw their three-game win streak and seven-game point streak snap at the hands of the Carolina Hurricanes.

Detroit took an early lead thanks to a Klim Kostin goal that came just 2:20 into the evening's action, but the Hurricanes' Jordan Martinook answered within a minute of Kostin's marker.

The score remained tied at one until the late stages of the second, when Martin Necas (playing for the first time since January 2nd) provided the home side with their first lead of the game.  However, once again, a go-ahead goal begat a quick equalizer, and J.T. Compher pulled the Red Wings back level with a power play strike in the period's final minute (2:52 after Necas made it 2-1).

At the 10:46 mark of the third,  provided the Hurricanes with a lead they wouldn't relinquish.  Sebastian Aho added an empty-netter to make it 4-2 Carolina with 1:16 to play.

As proved the case when these two teams met in mid-December, the Red Wings were largely smothered by the Hurricanes' aggressive, forechecking brand of hockey.  Detroit managed to generate just 11 shots on goal.  Meanwhile, Alex Lyon stopped 26 of the 29 shots he faced in the Red Wing crease.

Detroit will return to action Sunday night, when the Red Wings will host the Tampa Bay Lightning.
