Detroit's Elle Hartje Selected 25th in PWHL Draft

The latestThe latest episode of THN Detroit's hit podcast The Silky Mitten State is live!

On this week's show, my co-host Connor Earegood and I run down a diverse gauntlet of hockey and Michigan-related topics.

We get started by discussing Elle Hartje, a Detroit born and trained Yale graduate whom PWHL New York selected with the 25th pick in this week's draft.  We discuss Hartje's background as a multi-sport athlete, the significance of another Michigan born and raised player entering the league, and her potential impact for a New York team that finished last in the PWHL table in year one.

From there, we get into a somewhat contrived debate about potential top six acquisitions for the Red Wings this summer, weighing the pros and cons of Patrik Laine and Jonathan Marchessault.  Both of us arrive at the conclusion that Marchessault is probably the better fit for Detroit right now, but we get into an extended conversation about their career arcs, merits, and fit.

We move on to discuss the news that the Capitals bought the website CapFriendly, what it means for the site, NHL fans, and the league.  We also return to our conversation about the relative importance of sports business to drawing in new fans.

Then, we wrap this week's show by running through our takeaways from Games 1 and 2 of the Stanley Cup Final—from the Panthers' overwhelming defensive effort in Game 2 to potential adjustments for the Oilers.
