The latest episode of THN Detroit's hit podcast The Silky Mitten State
The Silky Mitten State episode 25 is live!
It's the best time of year for watching hockey on television, and today's show celebrates that with a Stanley Cup playoff jamboree. We dive into each series with thoughts on what we've seen and where it's going.
We get started talking about the Hurricanes and Rangers (you can see an excerpt of this in the featured video). Specifically, we wonder whether Carolina can bounce back from its hole by finding a way to tighten up its penalty kill without sacrificing the high intensity, heavy pressure style that defines their identity. We also note that this series (especially the struggling PK) looks an awful lot like Canes playoff losses gone by.
Then, we jump into Stars-Avalanche, debriefing a chaotic Game 1 in Dallas and discussing the relative value of the Stars' depth and Colorado's intimidating playoff know-how.
Our biggest disagreement comes in the discussion of Bruins-Panthers, where I believe Florida has laid the foundation for a convincing win over an inferior version of itself and Connor trusts Boston to rekindle some of its Game 1 fire.
Finally, our Oilers-Canucks breakdown (somewhat appropriately for last night's Game 1) is all over the map. We get into Vancouver's unusual goaltending situation and Edmonton's challenges closing out the series opener. We also discuss Leon Draisaitl's impact and the potential importance of his injury. We also wind up in a long tangent about the salary cap and sports journalism.
Then, we wrap the show by talking about whether the Leafs can finally trade Mitch Marner after this latest loss.
