Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid set a personal best in the wrong kind of way.
EDMONTON -- It's never easy to lose a game.

Nevermind how the Edmonton Oilers lost Game one - by having a three goal lead evaporate before their eyes. All credit due to the Vancouver Canucks, they played a great game and fought hard.
One specific area that was a clear focus to them - was suppressing any potential offense from Connor McDavid. The Canucks clearly know the best way to defend McDavid, by gluing themselves to him all game. If you suffocate him and don't allow him to gain time and space he doesn't have the same impact on the game.
While he did get one assist on the night, he did not register a shot on net for the entire game. For McDavid, that's an all-time low.
Before last night McDavid had never gone through a playoff game without registering at least one shot on net. He wasn't the only player that didn't get a shot though - as seven other Oilers (who weren't Stuart Skinner) didn't get a shot on net either.

Overall, the Canucks limited the Oilers to just 18 shots on goal. The Canucks only had 24 shots themselves - which highlights how incredible this game was from start to finish.
This isn't the start that the Oilers wanted, but it's not going to be what defines the team. After their loss to the Los Angeles Kings in Game two, they bounced back and played solid hockey for three straight games. I imagine that a similar return to form is in store for this hockey club.
