The Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers exchanged goals early in the first period. Carter Verhaeghe and Mattias Janmark both contributed to the offense of their respective teams.

The Panthers came out to play tonight. They were the first team to score on a magnificent tip from Verhaeghe for his 11th goal of the postseason.

The Oilers came back 2:17 later. Janmark was sprung by a Cody Ceci stretch pass, who scored on a breakaway.

Janmark now has four points in the past four games of the Cup Final. He and Connor Brown have had fantastic chemistry with each other on the penalty kill and even strength.

Corey Perry was excited to see Janmark score. When Janmark came to the bench Perry kissed him - on the helmet.

Both teams have a long way to go before they can lay claim to the game. The momentum shifted to both teams at different times during the first period.

The shots are fairly even at 8-6 in favor of the Panthers. It's only a matter of time before one of these teams begins to run away with the game.
