Evan Bouchard is entering rarified air with his historic performance this season.
EDMONTON -- Some Edmonton-based journalists thought he couldn't measure up to Tyson Barrie.
It turns out he can't just measure up - he's blowing him out of the water.

Edmonton Oilers defenseman Evan Bouchard is having a tremendous season. His impact on both ends of the ice cannot be understated - and his pairing with Mattias Ekholm has been nothing short of divine.
In 66 games Bouchard has collected 65 points - 15 goals to go along with 50 assists. His 65 points are fifth best in the league - behind only Victor Hedman, Roman Josi, Cale Makar and Quinn Hughes.
The power play has become his bread and butter - where he ranks second in goals by a defenseman and third in assists, all with the man advantage.
Not only is he one of the best in the NHL this season, he's the best that the Oilers have seen on their blue line since the late 80's. The only other defenseman to ever score as much as he has is Paul Coffey.
This not only confirms the fact that Bouchard is having a historic season - it also illustrates just how unique of a player Coffey was in his time. Even more impressive for Coffey was that he achieved that level of production six times as a member of the Oilers.
That is some really elite company to keep.
