With about a week to go until the beginning of the regular season, most NHL teams (including the Edmonton Oilers) are making cuts to their training camp rosters.

Max Wanner, Noel Hoefenmayer, and Ethan de Jong were the most recent Oilers to be sent down to the Bakersfield Condors. But the Oilers aren't the only team to send down a plethora of talent.

The Ottawa Senators either assigned or put on waivers to assign 20 players. Two of those names will be familiar to Oilers fans.

Xavier Bourgault and Jake Chiasson were assigned to the Belleville Senators today. Both were in the Oilers system for the 2023-24 season.

Chiasson played primarily for the Fort Wayne Komets of the ECHL. In 68 games, he recorded 20 points. He only played one game for the Condors, so it may be a tough season for the young prospect to get playing time with Belleville.

Bourgault, on the other hand, recorded 20 points in 55 games for the Condors. This was a step back from the 34 points he had collected the previous year.

Bourgault and Chiasson were dealt to the Senators in exchange for Roby Jarventie on July 15th. They must now put their best foot forward in the minors while waiting for their NHL opportunity.
