The Edmonton Oilers will play the first game of their playoff series against the Vancouver Canucks tonight. Kris Knoblauch and Rich Tocchet will engage in a battle of wits - in addition to the likes of Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, Elias Pettersson and Quinn Hughes.
Elsewhere around the NHL, Travis Green was surprisingly hired by the Ottawa Senators to fill their vacant head coaching position. Additionally, Drew Bannister signed a two year deal to get the interim tag removed from his coaching title with the St. Louis Blues.
There are a few big name coaches floating around including Craig Berube and Jay Woodcroft. One big name hockey insider has an update on Woodcroft in relation to a Eastern Conference team.
According to Darren Dreger, Woodcroft is one of several candidates who have met with the New Jersey Devils.
Within the last week Elliotte Friedman had reported Todd McLellan had spoken to several teams - and speculated that the Devils were one of said teams. To be honest, Woodcroft makes more sense for the team stylistically speaking.
Woodcroft coached the Oilers - a team with a tremendous amount of speed and skill, which is something the Devils have in spades. If there is mutual interest, this could be a slam dunk for the Devils.
It's a long off season - so don't be surprised if both parties take their time figuring out their next move.
