The Edmonton Oilers captain is showing more of his personality in media availabilities.
EDMONTON -- The Edmonton Oilers have now won 13 games in a row, a record among all Canadian NHL teams. They did it without a point from their two biggest stars - Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.
But the All-Stars on this Oilers team don't care too much about personal statistics. They really care about winning, and taking the season one game at a time.
McDavid has gotten flack (by some) for not having "enough personality". Over the past month there have been a few cases where this simply hasn't been the case. Last night's post game interviews were the latest example of this.
In this tweet McDavid takes a light jab at my fellow journalist Marc Spector. "I'm waiting for Spec [Spector] to write an article on the defensive side of the game."
His comment was met with laughs from all the reporter's present (including Spector). The big smile on McDavid's face tips everyone off to his humorous intention. He's not wrong however, most journalists (myself included) focus on offensive play and milestones rather than defensive ones.
"I guess I'll keep waiting for that."

Funnily enough after this availability Spector wrote an article focused on the defensive play of this team over the past 11 games. This edition of the Oilers - even with their terrible start - have now allowed two goals or less in 11 straight games.
On January 9th McDavid had another post game interview where he gave his thoughts on a goal overturned for offside.
Whether it's experience or comfort level - whatever is behind McDavid's newfound expressiveness in interviews - keep it coming. It's great for everyone to see the personalities behind the people. It's even more important than the play on the ice.
