EDMONTON -- Evander Kane is a heck of a player.

The Edmonton Oilers' power forward is an incredibly effective player, when he is healthy. The biggest issue with him this past season has been his health.

Before the opening round of the playoffs with the Los Angeles Kings, Kane revealed an injury when speaking to the media. He had been dealing with a sports hernia for the majority of the season.

This limited his effectiveness and his minutes. In the playoffs he played 20 games and only averaged 14:57 of ice time a game. Kane didn't play the last five games of the Stanley Cup Final against the Florida Panthers.

There were rumors circulating about Kane and his future with the Oilers at the NHL draft. In the latest 32 Thoughts podcast, Elliotte Friedman addresses those rumors head on.

In a quick solo episode, Friedman started his brief section on the Oilers talking about Jeff Jackson's approach to free agency, "if you heard Jeff Jackson at the end of the first round on our draft coverage, he said they are trying to sign all of their UFA's (unrestricted free agents)."

"There were rumors that they had asked Evander Kane to waive his no move clause but as of Saturday that had not occurred. So that's another one to keep in mind. We will see if that becomes a thing at all."

Kane carries a $5.125-million cap hit for the next two seasons. He presently has a no movement clause attached to his contract. On March 1st that changes to a modified no trade clause, where he will need to submit a 16 team approved trade list.

It will certainly be an interesting summer for the Oilers, one way or another.
