He's itching to hit the ice. Will injured forward Jason Dickinson be cleared for Game 1, boosting the Oilers' lineup?

One of the newest Edmonton Oilers, forward Jason Dickinson, is reportedly "highly motivated" to play in Game 1 on Monday night. Set to practice with the team for the first time since being injured, if things are good on Sunday, Dickinson could be in the lineup Monday as the Oilers take on the Anaheim Ducks.

Dickinson went on the ice on Friday on his own.

Dickinson took a shot off his ankle in San Jose, and it's as much about getting medical clearance as it is about coming down to the pain threshold.

If he can't go on Monday, a return in the first round seems plausible.

Head coach Kris Knoblauch received an update on Dickinson's status, saying, “It’s doctors allowing him to play, and he’s itching to get out there and he wants to be part of this."

Dickinson hasn't played in the postseason since 2020, when he was with the Dallas Stars. He has a total of 40 playoff games on his resume.

The Oilers would love to have him back, as he was brought in at the deadline to serve as the team's third-line two-way center. At practice on Friday, the Oilers had Ryan Nugent-Hopkins skating in the third-line center role.
