Connor McDavid and Nikita Kucherov could have something in common by the end of the season.

EDMONTON -- There is no doubt that Connor McDavid is one of the best players in the NHL today.

The Edmonton Oilers captain is on an incredible run this year. He is currently three assists away from collecting 100 assists in a single season. The last person to do this was Wayne Gretzky back in 1990-91 season.
Additionally, McDavid is 24 points away from hitting the incredible milestone of 1000 career points. While the last couple of games have certainly called into question about whether or not this will happen this year - the 100 assists certainly will.

Even more shocking, is the company he might have with him come April 18th.
Number one in the NHL scoring race is Nikita Kucherov. As of today he has 133 points. Of those 133 points, 43 are goals and 90 are assists.

The Tampa Bay Lightning have six games remaining - where Kucherov would need to add 10 more assists to his totals this season to reach that milestone. The scary thing is that it's actually possible.
The best players in the league tend to elevate their play during the home stretch of the regular season - right before it really matters in the playoffs. Kucherov will need at least two assists in four of the six games - and one assist in the other two - to hit the 100 assist threshold.

Over Kucherov's past 10 games he has only two games where he didn't register an assist. In the other eight games he recorded multiple assists five times.
It looks like McDavid might indeed have company at the top of the assist-mountain this season.
