The top available forward trade target doesn't appear to be heading to the Edmonton Oilers.
EDMONTON -- It's seven days away from the trade deadline and things are heating up. Things kicked off with Chris Tanev being traded to the Dallas Stars. That was followed up yesterday by the Toronto Maple Leafs acquiring Ilya Lyubushkin.

With conversations increasing in intensity and frequency - expect to hear a lot about the Oilers.
Frank Seravalli was on Oilers Now this evening and he spent some time talking about the Oilers. He confirmed that Anthony Mantha and Nic Dowd are on the Oilers list.

Seravalli reported that the Oilers are looking everywhere and hockey fans will hear about the Oilers asking about many players. But that wasn't the biggest reveal from him.
Reportedly, Oilers fans can cross Jake Guentzel off of their list. With Guentzel being the highest profile forward free agent there is likely a bidding war right now.
If that is the reasoning why, it makes sense for the Oilers to be out of it. From an Oilers' perspective, Pavel Buchnevich might be a better fit.
