EDMONTON -- The Mattias Ekholm trade will go down in infamy for being the best trade Ken Holland made for the Edmonton Oilers.

His defensive play has helped stabilize the Oilers blue line - which has allowed youngster Evan Bouchard to wheel and deal freely. But it's also had a similar affect on Ekholm.

Against the Vegas Golden Knights he potted his 11th goal - beating his previous career high of 10 goals. He reached the 10-goal mark only once before. That was back in 2017-18 for the Nashville Predators.

Along with those 11 goals Ekholm has 33 assists. That total of 44 points has him officially tie his career high - which he set back in 2018-19. Back then he spent 59% of his ice time paired with P.K Subban. He tallied 15 of his 44 points during that time with Subban.

The 33-year-old Swedish defender has two years left on his contract after this season. His leadership combined with his two-way prowess have been an incredible addition for the Oilers.
