EDMONTON -- With a 2-0-1 record since the trade deadline, things are looking good for the Edmonton Oilers.
At least in the short term.

When scrutinizing trade deadline deals, a lot is said of hypotheticals. "This deal will look fantastic if they make the playoffs," or others might say, "no one will care about a first round pick when they are raising the Stanley Cup."
Because of the future value of draft picks, it's fair to take into consideration if that player will receive an extension from the team he's being traded to.

It appears that the Oilers are thinking about just that.
In Elliotte Friedman's latest 32 Thoughts blog, he had one nugget about some of the Oilers future plans. He wrote, "we will see how things unfold in the postseason, but Edmonton did show interest in extending both Adam Henrique and Sam Carrick."

I really like this trade for the Oilers if they explore re-signing both players. After the trade Ken Holland said that getting a first round pick was important to the Anaheim Ducks. It's safe to assume that Holland was at least hopeful that an extension could be worked out with both players.
The off season is a long way away yet - there will be plenty of time to see if these Ducks will remain standing in a row for the Oilers.
