Nikita Zadorov had some interesting comments related to who he thinks is the best player in the NHL right now.
EDMONTON -- Connor McDavid is one of the best players in the NHL.
Ever.
What he has been doing since he entered the league in 2015-16 is ridiculous. He has 953 points in 630 career games - and hitting 1000 points this season is not completely out of the question.

He has numerous accolades and records to his credit. Some of them include (but aren't limited to) his NHL awards. He has won the Art Ross Trophy five times, the Hart Trophy three times, the Ted Lindsay Award four times, and the Rocket Richard Trophy once.
But he's never won the Stanley Cup.
That last trophy - the greatest trophy in all of hockey - might be the sticking point in Nikita Zadorov's interpretation of who the greatest NHL player is right now.

The Vancouver Canucks are going up against the Colorado Avalanche tonight. This will be the final meeting between the two clubs this season.
The Avalanche are only one full season removed from their Stanley Cup Championship in the 2021-22 season. It's that championship pedigree that propels Nathan MacKinnon to the top of the NHL player rankings.
In a scrum this morning at optional practice, Zadorov referred to MacKinnon as "the best player in the world." He also said that he would build a team around MacKinnon "because he's a winner."
Zadorov also said that he would take MacKinnon over Auston Matthews and McDavid, for the fact that he has won the Stanley Cup.

The Oilers are on pace for a better season than they had last year - with McDavid doing things not seen in decades.
Will McDavid ever be the greatest if he doesn't win the Stanley Cup?
Many would argue no - and you can bet that McDavid will do everything he can to achieve that ultimate goal.
