A call to an old teammate could be in the cards for the Edmonton Oilers if they don't match Philip Broberg's offer sheet.
EDMONTON -- Reuniting with old friends is a great feeling.

Just ask Pat Maroon and Zack Kassian, two former Edmonton Oilers who were both spotted at Connor McDavid's wedding. They were all smiles for the occasion as a few pictures revealed.
McDavid himself attended Tyson Barrie's wedding last offseason. Could the former Oilers defender eye a bounce back year with his old team?
If the Oilers don't match the Philip Broberg offer sheet, some say that they need to pursue a cheap right-handed defense. More than a few have mentioned the idea of bringing Barrie back into the fold.
There are two reasons why this is a good idea. The first being, Barrie was well liked by his teammates during his tenure with the Oilers. As an observer of the sport and the teams participating in them, it can be tough to determine whether a player was loved by his teammates or not.
It's a whole lot easier to figure it out when they are spotted outside of the rink together, enjoying each other's company. The fact that several current Oilers went to his wedding speaks for itself.
From an on ice perspective, a Barrie return could make sense. He could be signed to a PTO or a league minimum deal on a one-year agreement.
Then he could be paired on the third pairing and take over second power play duties from Darnell Nurse and Mattias Ekholm. He could help make the second unit a legitimate threat when they step out onto the ice.

He recorded 15 points in 41 games for the Nashville Predators last season. Barrie would have had a lot more points if he wasn't a healthy scratch for a prolonged period of time. It was the first season since 2012-13 that he finished with less than 30 points.
The next few days will give hockey fans a clearer picture on if this reunion is in the cards or not. The clock is ticking.
