Edmonton Oilers top prospect Matt Savoie was spotted doing some training at the Downtown Community Arena.
EDMONTON -- Matt Savoie knows a thing or two about scoring goals.

The Edmonton Oilers prospect was a back-to-back 30 goal scorer at the WHL level. While with the Wenatchee Wild he scored 35 (2021-22) and 38 goals (2022-23).
Last year he played 41 games across the WHL, AHL and NHL. He scored 32 goals, 30 of those in the 34 games he spent in the WHL.
The hallmark of a great player and professional is constantly working on your craft. Savoie knows what he needs to improve his play. One of the ways he can do that is by taking a great skill and making it elite.
Yesterday he was spotted in Edmonton's Downtown Community Arena with Tim Turk. Turk is a skills coach who focuses on technical elements that improve a player's shooting.
Turk took to social media to show a video of Savoie working on one of his shooting drills. In the above tweet he writes, "Working with Matt Savoie on single leg jump release while in motion. Chest & shoulders exploding forward while jumping downward into the puck. Right foot & stick blade impacting the ice simultaneously adds deception!"

This seems like the right kind of skill for Savoie to develop. Any player can have a good shot. But to be able to beat an NHL-calibre goaltender, something about the shot needs to be elite. In the case of Savoie, he could be an extremely effective goal scorer in the NHL if he can develop this talent he is working on.
Turk has worked with a variety of NHL teams in different capacities. He has worked with players during NHL development camps, as well as with AHL players during the season.

He has worked with the Montreal Canadiens, Tampa Bay Lightning, Carolina Hurricanes, Calgary Flames and the now relocated Arizona Coyotes.
