EDMONTON – Some things are more important than hockey.

Fans love the game, but the people who play it are more important.

The Edmonton Oilers concluded their 2024-25 regular season with a 3-0 win over the San Jose Sharks. Max Jones, Corey Perry, and Ty Emberson recorded the goals needed while Stuart Skinner posted an 18-save shutout.

That wasn’t the most crucial thing during Wednesday night’s game; what came after the final buzzer sounded will be more memorable.

Trending Oilers Stories

The Oilers played on the road, and when the game was finished, Logan Couture came to the ice. There, a handshake line formed with every single Oilers player. The last one through the line was Perry, who lingered longer than everyone else who came through.

On Tuesday, Couture announced that he would be retiring from hockey. He has been suffering from inflammation between the left and right pubic bones. He is physically unable to play anymore and has not played in a game since January 31, 2024.

Over his career, Couture collected 701 points in 933 games, all with the Sharks.

He had a good amount of success whenever he played the Oilers. In 44 games, he recorded 21 goals and 18 assists. Couture has only scored more than 39 points against four other franchises: the Arizona Coyotes, Calgary Flames, Anaheim Ducks, and Los Angeles Kings.

This gesture from the Oilers and the extended chat with Perry are what Couture is going to remember the most from his time playing against his divisional rival.
