The Oilers are once again being viewed as a possible landing spot for this Habs goalie.
The Edmonton Oilers have remarkably turned their season around, winning each of their last 16 games. Now sporting a 29-15-1 record, they are clear buyers heading into the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline, and one area that they could look to improve is their goaltending.
While Stuart Skinner has been playing magnificently, bringing in a veteran backup to provide him with more support could be on the agenda. Because of this, in a recent article for Daily Faceoff, Matt Larkin listed the Oilers in "The obvious fits" tier for Montreal Canadiens goaltender Jake Allen.
Allen, 33, has been connected to the Oilers several times this season. This was especially the case when they were struggling immensely during the beginning of the season. However, although Skinner has been playing like a Vezina Trophy goaltender, Allen would be a nice upgrade over Calvin Pickard as the team's backup, as Larkin notes.
Larkin also noted that Allen's postseason success (.924 SV% and 2.06 GAA in 29 games) is another reason he would be a good fit for the Oilers. Skinner notably struggled last season during them, so having Allen as another option if that scenario occurs again this year would certainly be beneficial.
Nevertheless, whether it's Allen or another veteran goaltender, it would be wise for the Oilers to add to their depth at the position before next month's deadline.
